The Fundação Bienal de São Paulo is co-organizing with the Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR), starting March 7, another stage of the traveling exhibitions program of the 36th Bienal de São Paulo – Not All Travellers Walk Roads – Of Humanity as Practice, which will extend to more than ten cities in Brazil and abroad throughout 2026. In the capital of the state of Rio de Janeiro, the exhibition is signed by Vale and remains on view through May 3.

Held programmatically since 2011, the traveling exhibitions have become a fundamental extension of the Bienal de São Paulo, allowing works and debates presented at the Ciccillo Matarazzo Pavilion to be reconfigured in dialogue with diverse local contexts, activating new readings and relationships with audiences beyond the main exhibition venue. In its 36th edition, this movement reaches new territories, arriving in more than ten locations in Brazil and internationally.

In Rio de Janeiro, this relationship deepens with a new return to MAR, which hosts the traveling exhibition program for the second time. In this edition, the exhibition features the following artists: Akinbode Akinbiyi, Berenice Olmedo, Christopher Cozier, Hamedine Kane, Leo Asemota, Malika Agueznay, Manauara Clandestina, Mansour Ciss Kanakassy, Mao Ishikawa, Maxwell Alexandre, Metta Pracrutti, Ming Smith, Moisés Patrício, Myrlande Constant, Nádia Taquary, Suchittra Mattai, Tanka Fonta, and Zózimo Bulbul. The list of 19 participants is completed by the work of Olu Oguibe, displayed on MAR’s façade since September 6, 2025, the opening date of the 36th Bienal de São Paulo, with the piece Must You Take Everything That Belongs to Indigenous People? The traveling exhibition in Rio de Janeiro is curated by Keyna Eleison, co-curator at large of the 36th Bienal de São Paulo, and the exhibition design is by Gisele de Paula.

“Arriving in Rio and launching another stage of the traveling exhibition is to recognize the power of the encounters proposed by this edition,” says Eleison. “Taking the exhibition to other contexts is a way of reactivating the works, allowing new perspectives and experiences to resonate through displacement. At MAR, the 36th Bienal reconnects with everyday life and with other layers of interpretation, keeping the curatorial proposal of this edition alive.”

Andrea Pinheiro, president of the Fundação Bienal de São Paulo, underscores the strategic role of the program: “The traveling exhibitions are central to the Foundation’s work. By articulating exhibition circulation, educational training, and public programming in the cities that host the Bienal, we expand the reach of the exhibition and deepen dialogue with diverse audiences, recognizing the plurality of territories as a fundamental dimension of art.”
