Instituto Baccarelli was created in 1996, following a gesture of solidarity by conductor Silvio Baccarelli (1931-2019), who decided to do something for families left homeless after a fire in the Heliópolis slum. The mission of social transformation and inclusion through education began with music lessons for 36 children. Today, the Baccarelli Institute is one of the most respected social organizations in the country, responsible for 13 educational centers in the city of São Paulo—the music school in Heliópolis and the 12 CEUs, or Unified Educational Centers, which it manages in partnership with the São Paulo Municipal Department of Education.
