Talk – Vilanismo – Poetics of the Terreiro: the crossroads of arts and ancestral knowledge with Ìyálorisa Omilade and Moisés Patrício

01.11 – 01.11.25
Sat, 3 pm – 5 pm

On November 1, the talk Poetics of the Terreiro: the crossroads of arts and ancestral knowledge, organized by Vilanismo with Ìyálorisa Omilade and Moisés Patrício, will take place. Daniel Ramos and Rodrigo Zaim, from Vilanismo, join the conversation. The event will be held from 3 pm to 5 pm in the Invocations space, on the second floor.

Based on experiences in traditional terreiro communities and artistic movements – such as hip hop, samba, and contemporary art – the proposal is to discuss the question: how can terreiro and art be brought together without (re)producing a colonial relationship with African ancestry?

Moisés Patrício (1984, São Paulo. Lives in São Paulo) is a visual artist, photographer, and priest of Afro-Brazilian tradition. His trajectory is marked by the intersection of art, spirituality, and Black identity. His work moves between painting, photography, performance, and installations, bringing ancestry and the culture from the terreiro (space of worship and community in Afro-Brazilian religious traditions), as foundations of his practice. His activities go beyond the limits of the terreiro, fostering dialogues between art, philosophy, and spirituality. He is a member of the Artistic Advisory Board of the Pinacoteca de São Paulo. He has participated in the Dakar Biennale, and in exhibitions at MASP and Museu Afro Brasil (São Paulo), and Instituto de Pesquisa e Memória Pretos Novos (Rio de Janeiro), among others.

Vilanismo (founded in 2021, São Paulo) is a collective of twelve Black men creating spaces of resistance and affirmation within the art circuit. They value ancestral knowledge, Afro-Indigenous experiences, and collective construction, prioritizing autonomy and the creation of sustainable practices. Through their actions, they reject historical stereotypes and fetishes imposed on Black bodies, subverting normative expectations and celebrating cultural abundance. The group has participated in events such as Baile do Vilanismo (Edifício Misericórdia, São Paulo) and the conversation-performance “Black Masculinities” (Instituto Moreira Salles, São Paulo). Currently, the collective includes Diego Crux, Ramo, Renan Teles, Carinhoso, Guto Oca, Rodrigo Zaim, Rafa Black, Robson Marques, Denis Moreira, and Daniel Ramos.

This participation is supported by The Order of New Arts.
