Talk – EhChO and Vilanismo – 500 Braças in the measure of the impossible: land, house, studio
On November 29 the talk 500 Braças in the measure of the impossible: land, house, studio, with EhChO and Vilanismo will take place. The event counts with Camilla Rocha Campos e Carolina Itzá, from EhChO, and will happen grom 4:30 pm to 6 pm at the Invocations space, on the 2nd floor of the Pavilion.
500 Braças in the measure of the impossible: land, house, studio proposes a conversation about the right to land and creation, reflecting on the (im)possibilities of black and peripheral people exercising these rights. Based on documents such as the Land Law and the 500 fathoms measure, the talk highlights colonial legacies, property regimes, and the struggle for space to live and produce. The conversation also presents the partnership between the EhChO platform and the Vilanismo collective, emphasizing joint construction and the spirit of collective effort as practices of resistance and shared creation.
EhChO is a platform that assembles, hosts, records, archives, commissions, exchanges, resonates, affects, discusses, translates and proliferates the critical and creative production of artists, activists, researchers and organisers who share in its promise. As practice, it gathers sounds, words, plots and images that rehearse modes of existing and imagining otherwise, and that undermine and expose the violence of the modern political architecture. As a program, it gathers artistic interventions committed to decolonization. These interventions may take the form of study groups, seminars, online meetings, and public events. As a promise, EhChO envisions global existence without the violence that supports the needs of global capital, which operates in the symbolic and institutional mechanisms of extraction and expropriation.
Vilanismo (founded in 2021, São Paulo) is a collective of twelve Black men dedicated to creating spaces of resistance and affirmation within the art circuit. The group values ancestral knowledge, Afro-Indigenous experiences, and collective creation, prioritizing autonomy and sustainable practices. In their work, they reject stereotypes and historical fetishes imposed on Black bodies, subverting normative expectations and celebrating cultural abundance. Vilanismo has participated in events such as Baile do Vilanismo (Edifício Misericórdia, São Paulo) and the conversation-performance Black Masculinities (Instituto Moreira Salles, São Paulo). Current members include Diego Crux, Ramo, Renan Teles, Carinhoso, Guto Oca, Rodrigo Zaim, Rafa Black, Robson Marques, Denis Moreira, and Daniel Ramos.
This participation is supported by The Order of New Arts.
