Storytelling – Souffles: On Deep Listening and Active Reception with Dj Abud
On September 27, the first cycle of Conjugations – Education, part of the public program of the 36th Bienal, will conclude with the set Souffles: On Deep Listening and Active Reception, presented by DJ Abud. The soundtrack will feature a musical selection intertwining Moroccan, Brazilian, and Caribbean sounds. This last region will be the focus of the Education team’s investigations throughout October. The event takes place from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Varanda Bienal, the outdoor area of the Pavilion.
DJ Abud began his career in 2005 as a beatmaker and, since then, has never stopped digging and expanding his record collection. He built his identity in São Paulo’s underground parties, such as Voodoohop, and was a resident at the “Jazz Nights” of Clube Berlin. He has collaborated with numerous artists — Akira Presidente, Apelidado Xis, Cersv, DJ Hum, DJ Nuts, Don L, Febem, Fleezus, Kamau, Lanny Gordin, Mundo Livre S/A, Nill, Rodrigo Ppogi, Stephanie MC — performed at festivals — Coala, Lollapalooza, Fusion Festival (Berlin), Park Life (Manchester) — and opened shows for giants of Brazilian music — Carlos Dafé, Hermeto Pascoal, João Donato, Marcelo D2, Marcos Valle, Trio Mocotó — as well as international acts — Havoc (Mobb Deep), Kendrick Lamar, Yasin Bey (Mos Def). Despite his well-known research into Black music, Brazilian, and Latin music, he maintains a free style and creates sets that mix classics and new releases. He is currently part of the duo Cyber Funk alongside Donatinho (a project inspired by 1980s funk/boogie). Abud is also known for his original productions and, in 2025, released the single celebrating 10 years of his beat tape Vida Nocturna.
