Storytelling – Mawali-Taqsim: Improvisation as a space and technology of humanity with DJ Abud

29.11 – 29.11.25
Sat, 5 pm – 7 pm

On November 29, the third cycle of Conjugations – Education, part of the public program of the 36th Bienal, will conclude with the set Mawali-Taqsim: Improvisation as a space and technology of humanity. The sound mediation proposed by DJ Abud explores the musicality of the African continent, with a special focus on East Africa—a territory that includes Zanzibar, the site of the third invocation in February 2025—and its resonances in Brazilian music. The event takes place from 5 pm to 7 pm on the Varanda Bienal, outside the Pavilion.

The DJ set is part of Conjugations – Education, within the public program of the 36th Bienal. Conjugations – Education offers activities that, inspired by play, dance, singing, games, and storytelling, invite the public to a playful and active immersion in the exhibition, deepening practices of humanity and valuing diverse ways of being and living together.

DJ Abud has been active as a DJ and beatmaker since 2005, and since then he hasn’t stopped digging and expanding his vinyl collection. He built his identity in São Paulo’s underground party scene, at events such as Voodoohop, and was a resident at Jazz Night’s at Clube Berlin. Despite his renowned research into Black music, Brazilian, and Latin sounds, he is known for his free and eclectic style, creating sets that mix classics and new releases. He is currently part of the duo Cyber Funk alongside Donatinho, a project inspired by 1980s funk/boogie. He has collaborated with numerous artists — Akira Presidente, Apelidado Xis, Cersv, DJ Hum, DJ Nuts, Don L, Febem, Fleezus, Kamau, Lanny Gordin, Mundo Livre S/A, Nill, Rodrigo Ogi, Stephanie MC — and has performed at major festivals — Coala, Lollapalooza, Fusion Festival (Berlin), Park Life (Manchester) — as well as opening shows for music legends such as Carlos Dafé, Hermeto Pascoal, João Donato, Marcelo D2, Marcos Valle, Trio Mocotó, Havoc (Mobb Deep), Kendrick Lamar, Yasiin Bey (Mos Def), among others. Abud is also known for his original productions and, in 2025, released a single celebrating ten years of his beat tape Vida Nocturna.
