Can art take care of us? During his visit to the Bienal, British philosopher John Armstrong, co-author of the bestseller Art as Therapy, invites the public to rethink the relationship between art and everyday life. In this free lecture, Armstrong shows how works of art can become companions in the search for meaning, balance, and self-knowledge.
John Armstrong is one of the leading figures in contemporary philosophy. Co-founder and chief philosopher at The School of Life, he is the author of books such as The Secret Power of Beauty, Great Thinkers, and Great Ideas for Curious Minds. His work has inspired institutions such as the Rijksmuseum and impacted millions of people through his ideas on ethics, aesthetics, and the role of culture in our lives. Armstrong was director of philosophy of art at the Institute of Advanced Studies at the University of London and a professor at the University of Melbourne, as well as a national advisor on the humanities in Australia.
