Performance – The smell of the earth after the fire… – Myriam Omar Awadi
On September 6th, the opening day of the 36th Bienal de São Paulo, a performance by artist Myriam Omar Awadi will take place, activating the work L’odeur de la terre après le feu / Et la promesse des souffles: Pour l’obsession d’une résonance, étendre nos peaux, Nos corps / O, à la chaleur encore incandescente des cendres [The smell of the earth after the fire / And the promise of the breath: For the obsession with a resonance, gently stretching our skins, Our bodies / Oh, from the still-glowing heat of the ashes]. The activation will take place from 1:30pm to 2:30pm on the second floor. It will feature the participation of Julia Lacerda, Alzira E, Bella Amaral, Keithy Alves, Dessa Ferreira, Arícia Mess, PH Veríssima and Raquel dos Santos.

Myriam Omar Awadi (1983, Paris. Lives in Le Tampon, Réunion) is a Franco-Comorian artist. Awadi’s work gives voice to narratives that are often unheard, seeking the sparks reignited by their final breaths. Millions of souls and species, crafted from wood, clay, glass, embroidery, shimmering sequins, and seawater, drip onto microphones and awaken from their premeditated extinctions through the sweat of our deviant listening.
