Presentation – Educational publication–Invocations of the 36th Bienal
On August 30, from 3pm to 5pm, the educational publication of the 36th Bienal de São Paulo – Not All Travellers Walk Roads – Of Humanity as Practice will be presented to the specialized public. The presentation will take place from 3 pm to 5 pm. To access the event, you must register here.
Divided into four volumes inspired by the Invocations, the publications weave together the learnings from various encounters with conversations among collaborators and educational practices. The event will feature a presentation of the publications and the performance Pretos do Rosário by artist and educator Guinho Nascimento.
Based on the question, “What paths must we follow to practice humanity as a verb?”, the publications propose a space for the convergence of knowledge, territories, and educational experiences. They adopt the metaphor of an estuary – a fertile space of confluence – and connect reflections from the Invocations, a series of gatherings held throughout the project, with pedagogical and artistic practices that flow into the Bienal’s main exhibition.
Aimed at professionals in the fields of art, education, and culture, the event will celebrate the launch of the publications with a roundtable conversation and the performance Pretos do Rosário by Guinho Nascimento. Together with Nascimento, Congada de Santa Efigênia, asa de Caridade Pai João da Ronda – Recanto Quiguiriça and Comunidade Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Homens Pretos da Penha de França take part on the performance.
The event will feature the following structure:
Act 1 – Conjugations
A conversation between the education and communication teams of Fundação Bienal and the conceptual team of the 36th Bienal, sharing the processes and paths taken in the creation of the educational publications. The public programming developed by the education team for the main exhibition will also be presented.
Act 2 – Presentation / Performance
The performance Pretos do Rosário, conceived by Guinho Nascimento, will mark the end of the event and the symbolic opening of the educational actions of the Bienal.
The performance proposes to “ground the territory” by celebrating ancestral technologies of coexistence through body and memory. It is a ritual walk that transforms the Pavilion into sacred ground, radiating Ngunzo, axé, and the vital force of Black popular festivities. The body becomes an archive, an instrument of memory and belonging, evoking ancestry in the crossroads of time, gesture, and history.
Guinho Nascimento is a multidisciplinary artist and educator with degrees in Visual Arts and Contemporary Dance. His work spans drawing, printmaking, painting, performance, and film, focusing on Afro-diasporic aesthetics and ancestral language practices. He is the founder of Galo Preto Ateliê, a researcher of graphic crossroads and Black visualities, and a curator at the collective Nossa Casa – Artes e Terapia. He is also the Emeritus King of the Nossa Senhora do Rosário da Penha de França Community, a Black cultural heritage organization linked to the Rosary Brotherhoods.
Act 3 – Closure and opening of paths
A collective procession with the audience and a ceremonial mast, celebrating the intersection of memory, art, and territory.
