Conjugations – Kairi: The Island – Central Bank Museum
On January 10, as part of Conjugations, the public program of the 36th Bienal de São Paulo, which seeks to bring together institutions from around the world to collectively connect, explore, and celebrate humanity, the Central Bank Museum will take part in the program. The event will take place from 2 pm to 3:30 pm at the Sertão Negro space, on the ground floor.
At the Bienal, the Central Bank Museum presents Kairi: The Island, inspired by the indigenous name for Trinidad. This project reflects on the profound transformations brought by colonialism and its enduring legacies across the Caribbean. It explores how artists and cultural institutions imagine new paths and regenerative practices that restore humanity and resilience.
Our participation underscores the Central Bank’s commitment to supporting creative interventions that challenge norms and inspire future possibilities. In times of global uncertainty, these voices matter more than ever, and we are proud to share them on this international stage.
The Central Bank Museum of Trinidad and Tobago is a vibrant cultural space dedicated to preserving history and celebrating creativity. Located in the heart of Port of Spain, the Museum houses two major collections, the Art Collection, featuring iconic works by local artists, and the Numismatic Collection, which traces the evolution of currency and trade. Through exhibitions, educational programs, and community outreach, the Museum fosters dialogue around art, heritage, and social change.
