Music and workshop – Cachuera Group – Congados and Terreiro Games

On October 12, there will be a musical concert and workshop called Congado and Terreiro Games, by Cachuera Group. The event will take place from 2 pm to 4 pm at the Varanda Bienal, the outdoor area of the Pavilion.

Formed 30 years ago, the Cachuera Group is a collective dedicated to the appreciation, preservation, and dissemination of Afro-Brazilian culture, where gestures and oral tradition (the spoken word) constitute the body of memory that feeds constructions of re-existence and assert themselves as strategies of resistance to the historical stifling and silencing of the voices of popular traditions by Brazilian society in its capitalist way of life with colonialist values.

Inspired by the repertoire and foundations shared with the drum communities of the southeast region (Congados, Jongos, and Batuques de Umbigada), the collective proposes the experimentation of these manifestations, seeking to build a unique artistic space, with its own repertoire of compositions and musical arrangements within traditional genres. The work aims to raise awareness and awaken new perspectives and experiences for us to think about the affective relationships and collective practices of contemporary life.
