Cinema and roundtable with Chica Andrade & Rafael Mellim, Heitor Augusto and Wasis Diop – Stream of Images / Imaginaries – La Friche la Belle de Mai

19.09 – 19.09.25
Fri, 6 pm– 8:30 pm

On Friday, September 19, the first block of the program Stream of Images / Imaginaries will be screened, followed by a roundtable with filmmakers Chica Andrade & Rafael Mellim, Heitor Augusto, and Wasis Diop. The event will take place from 6 pm to 8:30 pm at La Friche la Belle de Mai, in Marseille.

Stream of Images / Imaginaries, the film program of the 36th Bienal de São Paulo that highlights connections between Brazil, the Caribbean, and West Africa, brings together the richness of Brazilian and French cultures in a program of films and related activities. It is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs / Instituto Guimarães Rosa, the Embassy of France in Brazil, and the Institut français, as part of the France-Brazil Season. The program is rooted in the historical bonds and strong transcontinental relationship of mutual influence between Brazil, the French Caribbean, and West African countries, establishing dialogues between contemporary works from the African continent and historical pieces from the Cinémathèque Afrique collection, as well as films and videos by both historical and contemporary artists from Brazil and the French Caribbean. Screenings will be accompanied by conversations with artists, lectures, and performances.

The films presented will be from the block Territory and Sovereignty, featuring works by Djibril Diop Mambety; Chica Andrade & Rafael Mellim; Ben Diogaye Beye; Audrey Jean-Baptiste & Maxime Jean-Baptiste; Geraldo Sarno.
