Choir – Sampa Charme

21.12 – 21.12.25
Sun, 11 am – 1 pm

On December 21, there will be a parade by Bateria 013 as part of the Coro program, which invites groups to enliven the area around the Ciccillo Matarazzo Pavilion during the holiday season. The program stems from the understanding of the conceptual team behind the 36th Bienal de São Paulo, which sees it as the “epitome of collective interdependence.”

The event will take place from 11 am to 1 pm on Varana Bienal and is part of Conjugations – Education, part of the public program of the 36th Bienal. Conjugations – Education offers activities inspired by playing, dancing, singing, gaming, and storytelling, inviting the public to actively and playfully immerse themselves in the exhibition, deepening practices of humanity and valuing diverse ways of being and living together.

Sampa Charme is a free cultural project that offers charme dance classes every Monday from 8 pm to 10 pm in Vale do Anhangabaú, São Paulo. Launched in March 2023, the project brings together 350 to 600 people per meeting, celebrating black culture through dance, music, and style. Emerging as an extension of the Samba Rock Groove 011 project, Sampa Charme has established itself as an event in its own right due to its success and growing demand. It stands out as a cultural reference in São Paulo, promoting inclusion and strengthening black identity with vibrant performances and media involvement. Charme, a cultural manifestation from Rio de Janeiro that emerged in the 1970s with roots in soul and funk, became popular in the 1980s as a dance to the sound of R&B and groove, marked by synchronized choreography, the “passinhos.” More than entertainment, charme dancing is a symbol of resistance and appreciation of black culture, promoting respect, inclusion, and fun, with regulars who excel in elegant style and Afro references.
