Activation – Gê Viana – When sound kisses the sea: the crossroads of the Atlantic, reggae, and faith – DJ set by Lys Ventura and Sacy

07.12 – 07.12.25
Sun, 4 pm – 6 pm

On December 7, the activation of the work A colheita de Dan, titled When sound kisses the sea: the crossroads of the Atlantic, reggae, and faith, will take place, featuring a DJ set by Lys Ventura and Sacy. The event runs from 4 pm to 6 pm in the Sertão Negro space, on the ground floor.

Rooted in vibrant street parties, church celebrations, and family gatherings, Lys Ventura brings to her sets a strong Jamaican influence—especially reggae, rap, and dancehall—supported by more than eleven years of research directly tied to soundsystem culture. Her musical universe also embraces the vast soundscape of Brazilian music, electronic music, and grooves from different eras through her vinyl collection. With experience performing alongside Jamaican legends such as Sister Nancy and artists like Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, and BaianaSystem, her performance highlights the tradition of the deejay as MC and the culture of radio, blending her many sonic passions. Lys is also the host of the parties Fresh! and Baile da Ventura.

Sacy is a genuinely Brazilian legend—a forest spirit who helps people but also plays tricks on those who roam the woods. With this figure as inspiration, DJ and producer Arthur Danilo creates sounds wrapped in mystery yet highly danceable, which have set dance floors across Brazil in motion. Founder of Tucum Records, the first psychedelic music label in Maranhão, he has released both national and international projects.

Gê Viana (Santa Luzia, 1986; lives and works in São Luís) is a visual artist trained at the Federal University of Maranhão. She works between domestic and urban spaces, using manual and digital collage, painting, and the lambe-lambe technique. Her practice draws from archival images and her family’s oral memory, articulating narratives of everyday Afro-diasporic life in Maranhão and confronting hegemonic culture. She has participated in the Bienal das Amazônias (Belém, 2023), the 38th Panorama of Brazilian Art (Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo, 2024), the exhibition Histórias brasileiras (MASP, São Paulo, 2022), and the Borås Art Biennial (2024). Her works are held in collections such as those of the Pinacoteca de São Paulo and the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro.
