Activation – A song to a tearful garden – Oscar Murillo
On September 6 and 7, the opening weekend of the 36th Bienal de São Paulo – Not All Travellers Walk Roads – Of Humanity as Practice, the activation of the work A song to a tearful garden by Oscar Murillo will take place. The event will run throughout the Bienal’s opening hours during the weekend, at Praça das Bandeiras. The work is a collective construction, which can be completed by the visitors of the exhibition.
Oscar Murillo (1986, La Paila. Lives in London) has developed a multifaceted and challenging practice that spans painting, collaborative projects, video, sound, and installation. Through each body of work, he probes ideas of collectivity and shared culture, demonstrating a commitment to the power of material presence alongside complex meditations on contemporary society. He has exhibited at major institutions and events such as the Tate Modern (London), Aspen Art Museum, the Venice Biennale, the Sharjah Biennial, and the Abu Dhabi Public Art Biennial. He received his MFA from the Royal College of Art, won the Turner Prize in 2019 (shared), and was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Westminster.
