Pélagie Gbaguidi (Dakar, 1965. Lives and works in Brussels) develops a multidisciplinary practice encompassing painting, drawing, performance, and installation. Gbaguidi’s work explores colonial and post-colonial history, as well as the social transformations that emerge from the legacy of official history and its mutations. The artist has participated in the Berlin Biennale (2020), documenta 14 (2017), Lubumbashi Biennale (2019), and editions of the Dakar Biennale (2004, 2006, 2008, 2014, 2018). Her work has been shown at Centre Pompidou-Metz, WIELS (Brussels), Middelheimmuseum (Antwerp), Stadtmuseum (Munich), MMK (Frankfurt), and the National Museum of African Art – Smithsonian Institution (Washington, D.C.).
