Hessie (Hessie Djuric)
Hessie (Hessie Djuric)
Hessie (Spanish Town, 1933 – Pontoise, 2017) was a self-taught artist whose practice combined embroidery, collage, and domestic materials, transforming traditionally feminine gestures into a political and experimental language. From the late 1960s, while living in the French countryside, she developed a body of work marked by repetition, abstraction, and economy of means. She was actively involved in feminist movements in France. Her first major solo exhibition took place at the Musée d’art moderne de la ville de Paris (1975). Her works are part of public collections including FRAC Bretagne (Rennes), MUSAC León, and the Centre Pompidou (Paris).
