Hao Jingban
Hao Jingban (Taiyuan, 1985. Lives in Beijing) works with film and video to explore the historical distance between present-day viewers and the past. Her research-based practice includes archival study, interviews, and performance. Hao’s works intertwine personal narratives with collective histories, from ballroom dancing in post-Cultural Revolution China to 1930s northeastern Chinese cinema. Recent projects reflect on the psychological effects of COVID-19, the war in Ukraine, and the Black Lives Matter movement. She has received awards from the Han Nefkens Foundation, Mori Art Museum, and Singapore Art Museum. Recent solo exhibitions include Matadero Madrid and UCCA Beijing. She has also participated in group shows at Centre Pompidou (Paris), Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), the Seoul Mediacity Biennale, and the Shanghai Biennale.
